Q - Who can attend International Christmas? Who are the organizers?

A - International Christmas is for international students and scholars studying in Canadian Universities and Colleges. We welcome students of all nationalities, races and faiths. The event is organized by a group of Christian staff and volunteers through Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship of Canada. We look forward to learn about your celebrations as well as to share with you how we celebrate Christmas in Canada.

Q – Where will we be sleeping and is it warm? Are we sleeping in tents?

A – The sleeping arrangements are dormitory-type rooms, NOT tents. You will be sharing a room with others of the same gender. And, yes, the rooms are all heated.

Q – Will I have WiFi?

A – Maybe. There is WiFi capability, however the connection is may be slow and it is not always reliable. Plan to have no WiFi access, so that you are not disappointed.

Q – Can I make long-distance phone calls?

A – There is a payphone. While long-distance phone calls can be made, they may be expensive. We suggest that you bring a prepaid calling card with you. You will not be able to purchase a calling card once you are at camp.

Q – Do I need to bring my own sports equipment?

A – All sports equipment will be provided. There will be opportunity to try cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, tubing and broomball during the planned activity times. If this is your first time trying any of these activities, don't worry, there will be instruction provided too. Of course, outdoor activities are weather permitting.

Q – I do not have a sleeping bag, what should I bring?

A – You can bring a sheet and blanket as an alternative to a sleeping bag or ask around to see if you can borrow one.  (Please also refer to the packing list for other things to bring)

Q – I love music. Are there activities that involve music?

A – Yes, definitely! There will be an opportunity to join a choir, which will perform for the group. Or perhaps, you may choose to use your musical talents as part of a cultural exchange evening or just join others in singing Christmas carols.

Q - I want to share my culture with others while learning about Christmas in Canada. Will I have this opportunity and should I prepare/bring anything with me?

A - Yes, at International Christmas we encourage sharing through everyday discussions and activities. We have two specific events where you and others from your country can get together to participate in a cultural exchange and an international dinner. If you have a traditional outfit, music, food ideas, etc., bring them with you.
